Gino K. In, MD, MPH, of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, USC Keck School of Medicine, briefly reviews the various types of melanomas not related to ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure and offers a glimpse at the burgeoning strategy of using intratumoral immunotherapy for these skin cancers. The local administration of immune-activating therapies into the tumor itself may prove to be an effective way to break down immunosuppressive barriers in the tumor microenvironment.
