Connecticut-based, board-certified dermatologist Jane Grant-Kels, MD, FAAD, has been elected to lead the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). She will be installed as President-Elect in March 2027 and will hold the office of President for 1 year beginning in March 2028.
As president, Dr. Grant-Kels will lead the world’s largest dermatologic society, representing more than 21,500 physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. She will also hold the same position for the AAD Association, a sister organization to the AAD that focuses on government affairs, health policy, and practice information.
“I am incredibly honored that my fellow AAD members have entrusted me with the role of president,” said Dr. Grant-Kels. “There is a lot of work to be done in order to ensure the long-term security of dermatology, and I look forward to getting started collaborating with each and every AAD member to achieve the Academy’s goals.”
Dr. Grant-Kels is a board-certified dermatologist and was the Founding Chair of the Department of Dermatology, Founding Director of the Dermatopathology Laboratory, and Founding Director of the Dermatology Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She is now the Vice Chair of the Department of Dermatology; Founder and Co-Director of the Cutaneous Oncology Center and Melanoma Program; a Professor of Dermatology, Pathology, and Pediatrics; and the Associate Dermatology Residency Program Director at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville.
She earned her medical degree and completed both pediatrics and dermatology residencies at Cornell University Medical College, then completed a pathology fellowship at Bellevue Hospital Center and a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center with A. Bernard Ackerman, MD.
Dr. Grant-Kels has served on a variety of AAD councils and committees and the AAD’s Board of Directors, is the Deputy Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a Past Vice President of the AAD.
