The 3-year Adelson Program in Multiple Myeloma Research will fund seven investigators to conduct translational research in multiple myeloma at four U.S. academic institutions. Kenneth Anderson, MD, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Robert Orlowski, MD, PhD, of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will lead the research teams. Established in 2006, the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Medical Research Foundation is a private organization that supports collaborative translational science.

The foundation started with a pilot program called the Adelson Program in Neural Repair and Rehabilitation, to test a new type of collaborative research. This program led to the launch of four more additional research programs, from melanoma to core cancer, before this newly launched multiple myeloma research program. The foundation’s focus is highly integrated collaborative research between investigators and clinical scientists to develop therapeutic strategies.

“The Adelson Program in Multiple Myeloma Research is poised to have a significant impact on therapeutic advancements in an effort to treat and potentially cure multiple myeloma,” explained Kristian Hedstrom, Chief Science Officer of Adelson Medical Research Foundation, in a press release. “Through Adelson Medical Research Foundation’s model of collaboration, this team of world-class investigators will pursue novel interventions at all stages of this disease using some of the most cutting-edge technologies available.”
