Patrizia Mondello, MD, PhD, on the Effect of New Genetic Findings on Treatment of Relapsed Follicular Lymphoma

Posted: Sunday, December 11, 2022

Patrizia Mondello, MD, PhD, of the Mayo Clinic, discusses a subset of patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) who have a poor prognosis. Dr. Mondello and her colleague found that FLs with high levels of IRF4 expression are associated with a suppressive tumor microenvironment, and selective IRF4 silencing restores antilymphoma T-cell immunity. How this gene controls tumor immunity warrants further investigation that may eventually lead to the development of precision therapies for this population.
